No USB detected

1st time using Knoppix CD and it works great. Only problem is I cannot see USB drive when I plug in 1GB (or my 512MB) usb drive.

On desktop (or in Konqueror) I see icons for 2 CD drives and 2 hard drives (there is actually 1 hard drive with 2 partitions). The hard drives show up as SDA1 and SDA2

Web readings Ive done indicate plugging in USB should automatically show an icon like SDA5 or whatever but that does not happen for me...sigh. Also, most readings indicate hard drives usually show as HDA since they are IDE I am pretty sure. But mine show as SDA and work fine.

Just need to get the USB to show up. Any ideas? I like using GUI instead of commands.
