Noob in need of help: dvd rom unable to mount!?

I had installed a version of Knoppix 5.0.1 (beginner) and after the install I didn't have a dvd-rom or cdrom icons on the desktop!?
I inserted a dvd-r and the Icon appears but it gives me this error message:
Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
mount: can't find /dev/hdc in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
What happend and what can I do to fix it???
Thanks,
Rob

Can you post the content of your /etc/fstab?

Code:
cat /etc/fstab
And the output of those 3 commands:
Code:
ls /dev/hd*
Code:
ls /dev/sd*
Code:
ls /dev/sr*

I had just upgraded and the problem is back... as a temporary solution I have to go into Disks admin and enable the DVD-rom every session!?
So if it's still of any help I have posted what you asked before:
