Cool Persistent Home Directory

I am running Knoppix from a live CD on an IBM T20 ThinkPad. I set up a Persistent Home Directory on a USB memory stick. Now when I boot I get a dialog screen that says I must choose to use the Persistent Home Directory or it will boot without it. You have a choice of Yes or No and only a few seconds to respond. I can't understand this idiocy. Why would I go to the trouble of setting up the memory stick AND deliberately plugging it into my machine before booting if I didn't want to use it! And the default choice on the screen is No. When I boot my computer, I have to sit there waiting to pounce on this stupid choice or miss my persistent memory. How do I remove this dialog screen from the boot procedure, or at the very least change the defaoult choice to Yes? Thanks for any suggestions.
