Knoppix 3.7/2.4 kernel boot hung at mouse detection

Dear Knoppix Gurus,

I needed to boot 2.4 kernel so I used Knoppix 3.7 Live CD. The
boot got to the point where I thought it's trying to detect the
mouse (after the green autoconfig bar being done),
and just hung there with the floppy drive light on. It boot fine
with 2.6 kernel. It also boot fine all the way with 2.4 kernel
on another older PC.

What could I do to fix or bypass this hang?
Many thanks.

A.

Welcome to the forums, am37

I'm not sure what's going on with your Knoppix CD. You could take a look through the cheat codes that are available right before the CD begins to boot. Maybe there's something there that will get you past the hangup.

If you are open to trying another live-cd, take a look at Damn Small Linux. It's only about 50 MB and uses the 2.4 kernel so it might work for you.

Thank you Ozar.
I have tried most cheats for half of the day, but still
couldn't get around the problem. I'll definitely look at
Damn Small distro. Thanks.

I have browsed DSL (Damn Small Linux) and DSL-N (a larger
distro). Unfortunately, neither seemed to have a full gcc dev
environment I also needed. The focus there seemed to be
more towards apps than development.
