Question PC Recovery using Knoppix v5.01: Problems Copying Files

I'm running into a "could not make folder..." error when I try to recover files from the NTFS HDD on my laptop, which crashed while using XP (who wouldv'e guessed). I successfully set up an FTP server on a remote computer for the process. However, the error happens no matter what media I try to send my precious data to, even to the very same HDD. The hard drive is mounted and I'm pretty sure I have the proper permissions. Also, copying files one by one seems to work fine. Unfortunately, I cant do that with a 13GB recovery involving thousands of directories.

Note: I'm very new to Linux. I've just recently decided to begin my transition to the light side.

Thanks in advance for any help.
