I am trying to run knoppix 3.9 cd on an old Dell optiplex gx150. It starts loading fine, but at the point where it tries to load the gui, the screen goes off and on a few times and then it becomes scrammbled. I have tried searching the forum and can't find anything that will help. During boot I get a line that says "bios is out of date" and " invalid mode" I have tried cheat codes to set different video modes. I'm sure it's just the hardware is too old. I am thinking maybe an older version of knoppix might help or another live cd platform.

What "cheat codes" have you tried? vga=0 and stuff like that?

one of them is:

knoppix screen=640x480 depth=24: vsync=60 hsync=31.8

from that I got an error that says my video card isn't supported... running intel chipset onboard graphics???

There is also a section that says improper mode and then gives me some to choose from.

Use specified XFree4-Module

Try to use i810 (Intel Extreme Graphics 2) module.

If nothing works, try "Knoppix 2"

After boot up to a console/terminal:

Run "xorgconf", "xorgcfg", "xf86conf" or "xf86cfg" commands.

Setup with "intel 810" or "vesa" driver.

Start x-windows using "xinit" command.
