internet troubles

Sorry to bring up what seems to be a well worn topic, but even after reading many of the previous internet posts, I still can't get online when using Knoppix, although I have no trouble when using Windows XP.

I've followed the suggestions given in previous posts, such as using the two commands lspci and ifconfig, but am still not sure how to proceed. Here are the results I got when I did those.

For lspci, I got a long list of information, here's the two lines that appear to be related to networking:

00:04.0 Ethernet controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 Ethernet Controller (rev a1)

01:07.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01)

Here's what I got for ifconfig:

Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr: 127.0.0.1 Mask: 255.0.0.0
inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packers:14 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packers:14 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:700 (700.0 b) TX bytes:700 (700.0 b)

Like I said, I'm not sure what to do with this information.

BTW, I don't know much about my internet connection, I have a wireless connection to a linksys router.

Some specific directions would be great. Thanks!
