kernel panic- not syncing.....
Im am a first time user of linux trying to save some information off of the hard drive on my laptop which had a unrecoverable windows boot error. When I start up the laptop with the knoppix 5.1 disk installed i get the first menu where you hit enter to start linux from cd then when I do that I get a message
"Kernel panic - not syncing: vfs: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(1,3)"
can someone give me an idea of what this means and where to go from here
thanks'

ok, for the info of anyone else who may experiance this problem, i had to type in the command "knoppix mem=128M", from the reading ive done i guess that my board didnt pass the memory size test?, well it at least its working, now to figgure out how to use it

How much RAM do you have? You can pass actual RAM size. Knoppix will work faster with more Memory.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
