monitor goes on standby mode during boot

This seems to be a reoccurring problem to several people that are trying to load ANY Linux distro, with me begin one of them.

I'm hoping that some one here would have a solution to the problem.

i will admit that my Linux knowledge is very limited, I'm a new user. Ive messed with a very old version of knoppix back in 2003 and currently have Mandriva LE 2005 running 100% ok on my desktop.

recently I decided to update my Linux and either install the new Knoppix 5.1 or mandriva 2008, but every time that i load the CD, boot it up and allow linux to load by pressign enter i get this problem.

Linux checks all of the hardware and loads all of its stuf, then at what looks like the end the monitor goes into standby mode.(black screen green blinking light)

does any one have any solutions?

Which Graphics Card do you have? Post your machine's specs here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
