Open a terminal and post the output of
    Code:
    mount
    sudo fdisk -l
    -l has a small L rather than a one.

y0 - I'm not at the machine right now but i'm familiar with those commands.

In the end I couldn't mount the drive correctly with live cd, nor knoppix - I think it was to do with LVM.

However, I got the server to boot by using the install DVD: install / other / boot with dvd. I could then access my files.

So got there in the end but, GRUB is fubbar'd O_o

Once you get the system to boot you should be able to reinstall grub - can do this through yast or command line. Output of
    Code:
    su -
    grub
    find /boot/grub/menu.lst
should give correct partition for menu file
    lets say it returns (hd0,0)
    then do
    Code:
    root (hd0,0)
    setup (hd0)
    quit
Then try a system restart and see if the system can boot.
