Installing a program in Knoppix 6.0.1
So let's say I go to Linux.org and on the 'Applications' page I download a game. How would I install it or get it to work?

It depends on the format of the game you are downloading from linux.org. There are a lot of formats available like .deb, .rpm, binary or source files and each has different command for installation.
Have you tried Synaptic Package Manager? Its available in Menu and a lot of games are available in its sources.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

go to the softwares website to see if there is a .deb since knoppix is debian based you should use .deb if possible
