USB install - Trying to understand my partitions
hi,
i am trying to understand my partitions.
i installed knoppix (dvd) on to a 16gb usb flash drive via
Preference | Install KNOPPIX to flash disk.
my /KNOPPIX-DATA is only 4gb, the other 12gb is partitioned as follow:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 15G 7.8G 7.2G 52% /mnt-system
tmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /ramdisk
/dev/cloop 8.7G 8.7G 0 100% /KNOPPIX
/dev/loop0 4.0G 1.7G 2.4G 42% /KNOPPIX-DATA
unionfs 4.0G 1.7G 2.4G 42% /UNIONFS
unionfs 4.0G 1.7G 2.4G 42% /home
tmpfs 10M 64K 10M 1% /UNIONFS/var/run
tmpfs 10M 2.7M 7.4M 27% /run
tmpfs 10M 0 10M 0% /UNIONFS/var/lock
tmpfs 100M 60K 100M 1% /UNIONFS/var/log
tmpfs 2.0G 76K 2.0G 1% /tmp
udev 20M 28K 20M 1% /dev
tmpfs 2.0G 144K 2.0G 1% /dev/shm
if i install knoppix (dvd) on to an 8gb flash drive,
how much will /KNOPPIX-DATA decrease by?
And is there a performance difference between using
a 16gb usb flash drive vs a smaller 8gb?
thx

Hi and Welcome !
First of all, its not recommended to install Knoppix in Hard disk. According to its developers, one should use Knoppix in LiveCD/DVD mode only.
15GB of disk space is being used by / partition. Could you post the output of fdisk -l command here?
Code:sudo fdisk -l
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
