PC REQUIREMENTS FOR KNOPPIX 3.7
Hi every1 its me again...
I have a question for the requirements for Knoppix 3.7.
I have my good PC, which i'm on now, but I want to intall Knoppix on my old PC. Here are the specifications:
Make of PC: NEC
96MB of RAM
1.3G of Hard- Drive Space
Pentium 1 Proccessor
I know it sounds like a really crap computer, but do u think it will run Knoppix 3.7???
Cheers.... Tux22

I kind of doubt it. You can give it a go, but rather than Knoppix, maybe try Xfld, which needs a bit less recourses.

or try running it in IceWM, press to go to boot options, press the F key that is listed in the window, and you should see instructions for desktop windows manager. You can also change resolution, color dpeth, and other options, you may want to mess with these settings also to optimize your performance
Linux is for those who want to know why their computer works.

I don't think you would run K. 3.7 at all well on the system you mention. 96 mb is probably ok for running KDE but I imagine you would need more than that for some of the apps eg like Open Office to run properly.
Also the HD won't be large enough if you do a full install: K.3.7 has about 2GB
of executable software on it. But you could do some chopping when installing k.3.7.
I agree about using smaller distros such as Feather Linux.
It is fun not giving up on older gear. I'm going to try Mepis on an old 1.6 GB HD as i understand it takes up about 1.2GB of space. If you did some chopping Mepis might, subject to ram and processor requirments, be able to run on your machine, but I'm happy to be corrected by someone on that.
