KDE doesn't start automatically after HD install of 3.7
Good evening all,
I just completed what I thought was a sucessful install. Everything went fine, and the system loads without errors.
The last message I get is:
Starting K Display Manager: kdm.
Then, I enter my root login and password, and it just leaves me at a prompt that says:
root@LinuxBox:~#
If I type in "kdm" and hit enter, the screen goes blank for a second and then back to the same screen.
What's up? I'm stumped. While I've been around DOS/Win95/98/XP machines for years, I'm new to Linux...
thanks!

Have you tried "startx"?
And if so, what were the errors? How to know if you are a geek.
when you respond to "get a life!" with "what's the URL?"

I just recently installed Mandrake 10.1 and the same thing happened when I had the graphics card "engine" setup wrong. I just went back into the install process and changed the pre-detected card (the system detected wrong card) and everything went fine.
