If you use KDE it makes things easier, correctly configured (HAL and DBUS + KDE Kioslave support) it will automatically handle USB devices in Konqueror under the "media:/" protocoll. I'm afraid I don't know how to set this up under Knoppix, but I'd recoment that you try searching for "Knoppix Konqueror HAL DBUS USB massstorage".

If you are using Knoppix, the thumb drive should be mounted automatically. Check the desktop for an icon. If it is not there, check /mnt/ and /media/
