As I mentioned I haven't used any of the latest installers for slax, but I would imagine it would be within the booted environment. It always has been historically, last release I used the script was called make_disk.sh, and previously there was a (better imho) graphical installer. Any of the boot cheatcodes similar to the one you mentioned are for loading saved data.
