There is a Nokia PC suite by the name of gnokii which is pretty good, or at least was when I used it about 2-3 years back. I generally connect my phone using bluetooth, though sometimes for speed I connect using the Nokia data cable in universal mass storage mode.

Ok, so maybe I live under a rock but why would you want to connect your PC to your Phone? What can you do?

i am using KMobileTools. it can read and write KDE AddressBook, full import/export, read and write SMS, export them in KMail. phone's battery status indicator, direct dialing and call transfer etc.. these features depends in your cell's capabilities too.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
