Hi there

I'm totally new to linux and I'm using a MiniKNOPPIX live cd based on Knoppix 3.7 to recover some files. I'm just simply copying them from a NTFS windows partition to a usb external HD but the transfer speed is really slow and varies between stalling and an average speed of 1MB/s. Am I missing something on how the drives are mounted? Do I have to do something else to get transfers to usb drive to a better speed or is that just the way it is?
