eth0 not connecting

hello all
i have put knoppix 3.7 on a new computer which will act as my new server

but the problem is eth0, the port connected to the web
a) does not come up at re/boot up
b) once up will go down after a few hours not much good for a web server

the weird thing is if i ifconfig after a reboot or shutdown eth0 is there but is not working (tested via pings to google)

this has not happened on any other version of linux

is there something i should know about v3.7

what kind of NIC is it?

it is usb but as i say there were never any probs in knoppix 3.6

going to run tcpdump all day and see if there is a reason for the drop

are there any time outs if internet inactive


btw running abyss web server and no-ip to keep up with the isp changes
