sorry, i dont understand, does it get to KDE or whatever WM your using, or does it freeze in the hardware detection, or after that? thanks
Sorry, I don`t understand the abreviations KDE, WM. From what I have
read, the bootup should end with the blue screen and have accessible icons
down the lefthand edge denoting drives etc.
I do get to this blue screen but without these icons, also my mouse is
inoperative.
Mike.
KDE is the standard windows manager (WM) in knoppix 3.7 :D About the icons im not so sure of, about the mouse being inoperative, i think in the boot screen to first boot knoppix, type "expert" itll ask you a series of questions, i think there should be a mouse option after it does some detailed detection, if so you may want to see what that is, it may configure it. I have gotten into something like this before. Hope this helps. :D
mechmaster, freezing in the hardware detection is exactly what Knoppix 3.7 is doing when i try to install it on my laptop. Is this something that you have seen before?Quote:

Hi there,
I do have a similar problem.
In my case, after knoppix displays the following messages
"Starting init process."
"INIT: version2.78-knoppix booting",
it then displays a sort of prompt and halts(I don't know if it is a prompt).
It is not because the cd is corrupted because I tried it on a friend's machine and it worked. Besides, the CDROM drive does not attempt to read any further so i am pretty sure the cd is not corrupted. i tried with bot Versions 3.6.x and 3.7.x but I am having the same problem.
My pc is a compaq presario 2200 laptop, 1400MHz Celeron-M, 60gb, 512MB Ram.
Hope someone can help me out.
Try booting with the ACPI functions disabled
Type the following at boot:
Code:acpi=off
