What format should i use to save files i use with knoppix live cd
What type of files are they?
i want to use knoppix as a dual boot os so i can learn how to use linux
im not sure which format would be the most versatile
sorry im a NOOB:shock:
I would suggest you try any other Linux Distro. Its not recommended to install Knoppix. Use it as LiveCD only.
Check distrowatch.com and pick any Linux distro from Top 10 list. Check the link in my signature too. It will get you going.
I prefer ext3 filesytem and would suggest you to format partition in that only.Quote:

If you meant that you want to install Knoppix to hard drive and you need to know which filesystem to use, then reiserfs or ext3 should do. The Knoppix website suggests that installing Knoppix to hd is not recommended for new users because of potential problems with the hd install. They encourage new users to look at Debian instead if they want to do an hd install.
I dont want to install it i just want to be able to save programs and files i will use with the live cd
IF I even can?
Unless you are saving your data or settings to a usb stick/drive, all changes you make will be lost because most live discs store data in memory which is lost once you reboot or shutdown.
That's what I thought you wanted to know, in addition to what daark.child explained to you, you could also save them to your hard drive, if you know how to mount it from within Knoppix.
Most files that you download from the net, have their own extension, so just save the files as whatever they are named.
Would it be easier to download different distro or is mounting pretty easy
I downloaded debain but i couldnt get it to load it told me the kernel was invalid or corrupt so i tried knoppix
