Windows XP kernel lost!!!!!!

:!: I was trying to install knoppix on my hard drive using the "knx2hd" command and then I went into the program called QTparted and I clicked "format" thinking It was going to install on my hd and then i clicked linux-swap and then I shut down knoppix and then I went to start my computer and then It said "kernel missing". so i put a boot dvd in my pc that come with it and when it was all done recovering, I took out the dvd like it said and it still says "kernel lost, reboot" or something like that. So what should i do about that. My computer doesn't have a floppy drive for some reason so the recovery dvd was the only option i had.

If you boot with the Knoppix livecd, can you see the Windows partition on the Knoppix dexktop?
What was the full command you used to install knoppix to the hard drive?
Did you use Qtparted to prepare the disk in advance, before installing it to the hard drive?

Yes, I can still access the HD from within knoppix, but XP will not start.

The command was exactly "knx2hd" and entered into the root shell because when ever i try to type that in Konsole it says "knoppix:Access denied

I did use qtparted and i right-clicked on my existing ntfs drive and i clicked format and then linux swap and now XP won't boot

Can you access the Windows files still from Knoppix?

I am pretty sure the command should be "knx2hd /dev/hda3"


From what you said, I understand that you formatted the NTFS as swap, if so, no you will not be able to start XP. Hopefully you will tell me I understood wrong.

Do you see an icon for Windows on the Knoppix desktop labeled /dev/hda1.
I am sorry to say that you just made your Windows into a swap partition.
Some people would consider this to be a step forward, bye-bye Windows.

I do see the HDD icon on knoppix. Where can I get this problem solved and windows up and running again, like i said i don't have a floppy disk slot in my pc. And, what you said about "bye, bye, windows." is a very cruel thing to say. Windows Rocks :D :D :D :D :D

When you click on that icon for hda1, can you see your Windows files.
Btw, I only said bye bye windows if you couldn't see the hda1 icon.
