    Unable to run Knoppix exept in basic shell

    I am unable to run knoppix on my laptop other than in basic shell;
    1. Knoppix cd boots;
    2. Splash screen appears;
    3. I then get the following output:

    how do i get Knoppix to see hdc as the CDROM drive?

    I've managed to enter Knoppix in failsafe mode, which works fine;
