    Unhappy eeepc not recognising SD cards


    Hi
    I have just installed Leeenux on my eeepc 701 4g and it is working wonderfully except that I can't get access to any of the SD cards I insert (32MB, 4GB, 8GB). Sometimes "USB2.0 CardReader SD0" is visible beside "File Systems" but mostly it isn't. The card reader is an internal one. USB drives work fine.

    I have trawled google trying to find an answer to this but am out of luck this time!

    Hello and Welcome.
    Boot up your machine and insert the HD card last. Open a terminal or Konsole window and type this code please. Use sudo or su - to the root account for these commands.

    EDIT: The code above, is a lowercase L and not a 1. This should show us all your drives and partitions,

    mount
    This will tell you what is currently mounted and where.

    This is how we look for system errors, messages and notifications with the dmesg command

    Just kinda interested...how did you find out about Leenux? It's not listed on Distrowatch.org.

    It seems there is a problem with the drive itself maybe. Does the SD card work on another machine?

    Hi
    I could read all these SD cards fine until I installed leeenux. I should have mentioned too that I managed to follow some instructions and mount my 32MB to /mnt/SD and view the files but once I took it out it didn't register again and neither did any other cards. (I don't understand much about mounting).

    Since then I have done a fresh install of leeenux to see if that would work for some reason!!

    Well, the first thing that comes to mind is, when you mounted the sd cards, did you unmount them before removing them? This might cause trouble...I'm not sure if this is the case or not. When you re-installed, did the drive work?
    Try manually mounting the drive and post any output you get.

    Unless you already have this directory, create the mount point.

    Also, provided you can mount the card manually using the above commands, you will have to un-mount them before removing it.

    Thanks. I got to the second line of code to mount it but the terminal is just hanging there a lot longer than I ever remember it taking last time.

    Ok it got there eventually and I put in the third line of code and could see all my files listed. Do I have to mount and unmount via terminal every time I want to use an SD card? Am happy to have this working so far thanks!
