    in console dpms powersave leaves backlight on, but Xorg dpms works


    when I do `setterm -blank force' in console, I'm left with the lcd crystals powered down but the backlight still on.

    in X I do `xset dpms force off' and the backlight turns off

    can anyone help?

    I think you want the -powersave option not -blank. See man setterm for details.

    I've tried `setterm -powersave powerdown -blank 1 -powerdown 2' which still leaves a bright white screen.

    I just tried vbetool and it works from the console and Xorg. I would like if the terminal dpms would work though.
