    Ati drivers Xfree86 4.1 Debian Stable Toshiba A75


    I've got Debian stable installed on a toshiba A75. I've downloaded the latest ati drivers and run alien -D to convert them to .deb and then dpkg -i --force-overwrite to install them overwriting the old libGL. When I run startx the screen blanks and nothing much else happens. I've ssh'd in and Xfree86 is taking up 100% of the cpu time. After killing the process the screen remains blank, but the system is responsive(I can start process, just can't see what's going on). Attached are copies of my XFree86-Config and the log generated.

    problem solved, sorta

    I got this working using the vesa driver. Obviously this is not the preferred solution, but it will have to suffice for now. If anyone has any other suggestions to try I would love to hear them.
