can Damn Small Linux be put on floppy to install??
I have tried Slackware 4.0 but I had serious problems getting a GUI to work with the Toshibas display and dumped it out of frustration...not sure if a more up to date X server will help or not but I'm willing to try anything at this point

also look at using frame buffering mode, old laptops like mine seem to like it, and render stuff in werid colours, if at all if you dont use it
