Light Linux Portable?
I'm looking for a laptop that is as fully supported as possible under Gentoo linux. The uses will be as follows
- Wireless networking
- Decent on-board speakers
- Occasional sw development - but will use external monitor - so smallish screen ok.
- very very light weight
- good battery and power control
- TV/Out NTSC/PAL
I've looked at the dell line, and i'm wondering if i can find something smaller and lighter.
you might look into an apple ibook i am getting one to load linux on and i have played around with them and they have decent onboard speakers and i dont know about gentoo but under ubuntu everything on my very recent powerbook was supported and they are just bout the same.
they can be equiped as you wish for under 1500 USD.
there is the link to the apple store where you can spec one out to your liking.
Dell and size..
I doubt that you can find anything smaller than Dell X1 at 1,1 kg

Sony makes small multi functional laptops. They have premium prices. Support may not be as good as Thinkpad for instance. I have experience with Thinkpads. IBM/Lenovo provides some support and drivers for Linux. You might consider looking at the Thinkpad offerings.
