linux on gateway

i tryed to install fedora core 4 on a gateway laptop and everything was ok but after rebooting my machine ... after the message checking network ..audio .. [OK] .. it appeared a black screen and nothing happend after that .. can someone tell me what is the problem ... i am a newbie in linux os .. please .. i really want to have linux on my laptop.. thank you

Looks like your computer is failing to start X cleanly. This is reasonably easy to fix.

When you boot up, select the grub option to edit the kernel command line parameters and add a '3' at the end of the line. This will make the computer boot up in runlevel 3 - for FC4 that's text-only mode. When the boot-up is finished, log on as root and use this command:

system-config-display --reconfig

and it'll allow you to set up your X configuration again.
