Old Compaq - no sound
It's a Compaq Armada 7400.
According to Windows, the sound card is ESS 1879 PnP
But SuSE 10 and now 10.1 as well, both cant find it or configure it, even with detect legacy hardware option.
But the sound was ok in SuSE 9.3 so what's happened?
Can anyone help?
thanks

fixed my own problem
Ok so I reinstalled SuSe 9.3 where the sounsd was previously working ok.
It had to do a check for legacy hardware and found various optins including ESS1879 (which is where SuSE 10 and 10.1 failed)
I noted down all the interrupts etc this time - and then reinstalled SuSE10.1. I then installed manually, copuing the settings over and it works OK!
(I wonder why 10.1 couldn't do that on its own like 9.3 did)
Anyway, for reference here are the settings
ESS1879 PnP
DMA1 # for ESS18xx dma1 1
DMA2 # for ESS18xx dma2 0
FM port # for ESS18xx fm_port
IRQ port # for ESS18xx driver irq 5
PnP detection for ESS Audio drive sound card ispnp
MPU -401 port # for ESS 18xx driver mpu_port
Port # for Ess18xx driver port
