IBM T42 Locking up
Hello Group,
I will appreciate it if you could help me to figure out that why my FC5 gets stopped once a while in the middle of work.
I have IBM laptop T42 with 1.25 GB memory and 40GB Hard-drive (shared w/ Windows!) and it works just fine I have it for almost 9 months. During this 9 months it has freezed three times. this happens when I am using gnome not in shell mode.
Any suggestions to find out what the problem is?
Thanks,
Amit

Can you ssh to the machine from another box? Or is the whole thing hosed?

One of my computers is an old IBM 770 and it does exactly what you describe: freeze in the midst of whatever I'm doing. I mean it locks up so totally I can't control-alt-delete. It runs Win98SE yet the symtom you have is on FC. I looked into the user manual and sometimes battery backup/recharge options can cause similar freezes. So check your Linux side power settings.
