linux for modem onboard
Dear all,
I'm newbie here, I need some information what distro that support onboard modem ? I tried ubuntu, knoppix, and fedora, but none worked with my modem.
My modem is Agare '97 (known by windows XP) and looks that it shared chipset with soundcard.
My motherboard is MSI and using Intel 915 chipset.
Thanks for your respond,
Ludfi

You will find it really hard to find distros that support winmodems. I suggest you invest in an external serial (RS232) modem which will work with andy distro (or OS) without the need for additional drivers.

I use openSUSE 10.2 with my Acer Aspire 3000 laptop.
I have the internal modem (Agere AC'97) working the slmodem
package from here.
Index of /packages/smartlink
I use the slmodem-2.9.11-20070505 package.

Watch out! That's NOT true. I offer this as I happend to have a really nice older external ZOOM moden (Model Nbr. 3090) and it will not work with Mandrake v7.0 or with Suse v10.0 and believe me, I've tried to make it work. It's a nice, small, compact external modem but it will just not work with the Linux versions I have.
Hope this helps some.
