intel video chip has me considering drug and alcohol abuse
ok, older laptop...Fujitsu Lifebook S series...model 6010. 1 gig chip, 512 ram, 40 gig HD...pretty good shape for it's age. It will not boot 19 out of 20 distros into x. So far, I have it able to boot dsl and something I stumbled across called cd linux. It is still under development and doesn't even have a package manager yet...DSL isn't an option. this laptop is going to an underprivileged child and it needs a more new-user-friendly distro.
Got a clue when I tried to boot mandriva and it got to the start x point and then gave me this dialog box:
Your system supports multiple head configurations
What do you want to do
(at this point I was looking for the "Throw-it-against-the-wall" option.)
Use Xinerama extension
Configure all heads independently
configure only card "intel Corporationl82830 CGC [chipset graphic controller]" (pci:0:2:1)
configure only card "intel Corporationl82830 CGC [chipset graphic controller]" (pci:0:2:0)
I've used all of the choices and it just pukes and comes back to the command line. Any help with this would be appreciated. Some kid will love this little laptop...but I don't and won't use windows...it came with xp sp2 originally but has a wiped drive by the donor.
EDIT: Finally was able to get a test on x and this is the errors that came back.
(EE) intel)(0): sil164 not detected got 5: from DVO12C_E Slave 112
(EE) intel(0): tfp410 not detected got VID 1305: from DVO12C_E Slave 112.
Try to change some parameters.
Dude, I've changed every parameter, every way they can be changed and I still remain with a fairly decent door stop. Your help would be appreciated,
