So Do I Have a 32 bit or a 64 bit System?

This laptop has been with me for more than three years already but it is only now I notice this output. Particularly the ones in Bold.

Does this mean I can install say..... an Ubuntu 64 bit in this same machine and add more RAMs and espect my machine to be able to make use of the RAM?

I read that if my system is 32 bit, it can only make use of 3G RAM and anything extra will not be utilized.

I have always installed a 32 bit version in this machine and used a 3G RAM. I want to upgrade to 8G if ever.

Yes, that means it will operate with a 32-bit OS, or a 64-bit OS. You'll need the 64-bit OS if you install 8 GB of RAM and want it all to be used.

That's a revelation for me after all those years! 8G RAM here we go!!!

Even if it turns out to be 32 bit (the op modes suggest it won't) you can install a PAE kernel which will allow it to address upto 64GB RAM although each process will be limited to 4GB.
