How to Know the what are the applications installed on linux box
Hi,
I am new to linux. what to know the what are the applications installed on the linux box(i.e oracle, java, etc)..
Is there is any command??

Please help me..

Hi and welcome!

What you ask depends highly on what distro you run. In fact, this is one of the major differences between distros. Can you post what you are running?

hi Thanks for your quick repaly..
I didn't understand wht u r saying..
My question is: Suppose your login in to one linux box.. ok
now wht are the applications (like oracle, java, etc) installed on that linux box how can know..
Is there is any command to see wht are the application installed on the linux box(In windows we use control panel-> add and remove programs, in this one we can see wht are the applications installed on the system)

how can know that are the applications installed in linux box?

It depends on which distro you are using because of the difference in packaging tools.

I am new to linux.. I didn't understand distro..

I am using redhat enterprize edition 4.
how can find the distro...

"Distro" is a shortened term meaning distribution.

I don't run Red Hat, but I'd think there is a way to get YUM (the package manager) to report all apps installed on the machine.

with yum you can do

Hi ozar/khafa,

I excutued the command in my linux RHEL4.6 " yum -y list installed"
but it's give the following error..
"-bash: yum: command not found"
Can you please tell me how to know what are appliations(like java, oracle) installed in the linux box?
Is there any command to find out..
