KMail display problem

Running KMail 1.7.1, KDE 3.3.0 under SuSE 9.2.

I have been successfully using KMail as above for more than a year, absolutely no problems.

Yesterday I received an email that contained some JPGs. All I could see were the thumbnails, so I used GIMP to display the pictures. Again, no problems.

But today I have discovered that I can not display the contents of emails any more. I double-click on an email entry in the inbox, a new window pops up, but it is empty -- no message at all is displayed.

However, when I click on the Print icon in the pop-up window, the message *is* printed. So I can print a message, even though I can't see it!

So what must I do now to see message texts again?

Hiya IanWade,
Welcome to the forums. About the only thing I could think of is to try changing the font color of your emails to see it if appears.

I wondered about that. The message display panel is light gray, and I suspected that the text might also be also light gray. But that isn't so. (In fact, I haven't changed anything to do with colors -- they are still the default settings).

Another strange thing -- although I can't see the displayed text, if I click on Reply, the text in the Reply window is visible.

I am now wondering if I did something in GIMP that upset something somewhere. I used GIMP for the first time yesterday, and I must confess I was floundering in there.

I decided I couldn't waste any more time on this, so I've installed Thunderbird.

Problem solved!

That's not a solution to the problem!
That is a work around.

Now if the same thing happens in TB you will be right back were you started, not knowing how to fix it.

Lazydog, you're absolutely right! Having lived with Unix for over 24 years I've gotten to the point that if I can't fix it in a few hours it ain't worth the effort (specially where it's not my machine). Life isn't long enough.

Hope I didn't step on any toes with my reply.

It's just I hate to see I can't find the answer so I'll install something else to do what I want.
