Quake Engine

quote]I know that there is a free replacement for the quake engine called QuakeForge. You can get it on sourceforge.net, but I think you'll need the PAK files from the original games if you want to play that.[/quote] - Another Post

emm...any configuration files required besides the Pak Files? As far as I know the pk3s only contain things like maps and character models. Hey, I could be wrong. (I usually am)

Don't think so. The PAK files contain the actual "game", so to speak. All other files are basically just the game engine; the PAK files contain all models, textures, scripts (note that one especially), maps, and everything else that makes up the game itself. Essentially, any game can be built on top of the Quake game engine, but the PAK files contains everything that everything that is "Quake".

Well i figured you could get it to work considering the fact that many half life and quake servers are linux.
