Probably so... it just seems really strange. Could it be that 0.66 and 0.68 install to different directories, and 0.68 is taking precedence in the PATH? Try running "find / -name '*gaim*'" and see if you can find any remnants.

i didnt really think this would be the case because before i install them i always remove the normal paths that they install in. and for soem reason i cant get it to copy and paste the outcome of the line you gave me.. but s there something specific i should look for?

ok, now im getting annoyed....i deleted EVERYTHING i could possibly find then recompiled it and its still really bad....arg....ill post screenshots after school

OK, now im really annoyed/pissed. well i just found out the whole reason for this BS.....well i compiled .68 again....WHICH is now stable by the way and it did the same thing.....well just for the hell of it i just opened it in "su" and it worked PERFECT....so what gives? i ./configured and make both in user then su'ed then make install.....so i dont know why....but i want it to work normal in user mode....

sorry for 5 posts in a row....but i got more **** goin on....heres what i found out.....when i try and MSG someone with it signed on ROOT it gives me this

Maybe some permissions got wrong while installing, especially considering that root can run it. Check the permissions of the indicated files and see what it says.

sorry i only know how to change permissions not check them...how do i check them? and root can run it but not really....see root can run all the images and such but when i send a message to someone it crashes and gives me that error i posted

Run "ls -l" on the file and check the mode on the leftmost part of the output.

im still unsure of what file im supposed to be checking?


and how do i look for everything on my system named gaim? i could just try and chown everything with the name gaim in it and maybe that willl solve it?
