Scanning and Scanning apps

Hi List;

I have needs to create / integrate a server / program with the following capabilities:
1) ability to scan a check and either insert the check data into a new dbase record or insert a new record based on the check name, address, etc

2) The ability to verify check amount

3) ability to stage the check in the dbase associated with various attributes

4) ability to be as automated as possible

Any Ideas, open source tools out there, etc ??

When you say scan a check, do you literally mean scan the piece of paper? If that's the case, you'll need to set up your scanner and then find some OCR software (I don't know of any) which you find reliable enough not to screw up reading anything...

The rest sounds like a SQL thing to me...
