When I try to start x from a login other than root, the following occurs:

#startx
xauth: creating new authority file /home/myuser/.serverauth.2965


Fatal server error:
Cannot move old log file ("var/log/Xorg.0.log" to "/var/log.Xorg.0.log.old"

[pause]
giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

When I log in as root and startx, KDE loads fine.

I created the login I'm having trouble with using the useradd script. It's set to use /bin/bash shell.

Which distro are you using? I notice you are starting x while there is a '#' there, which makes me wonder if you really are user instead of root. From the command line as root, do:

kdm

That *should* bring up the kdm "sign in mananger." From there, sign in with your regular user name and password. If that fails, let us know if it is giving you the same errors.
