Yeah, I've mixed Gnome and KDE on the same system many times in the past but doing that always comes with its own little issues, some of them not showing up right away. I've personally never been happy with the overall outcome of doing that, so refuse to mix them any longer.

I'm happy for those that do like to mix them, though.

Ok, I wound up doing what I described in post #5 once again, then played around with the various settings for a few hours and have it looking and working pretty well now, so I'm going to consider this thread "solved", and close it.
