about X server

Hi,

I'm running Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 5 and am having problems with my X server. MY problem is As long as the file /tmp/.X0-lock exists I am not getting GUI (Gnome) Login when i delete .X0-lock file and I execute command startx then only GUI screen will appear. I want GUI should appear bydefault once i boot the system.

How to solve this Problem.

What does appear on boot up? A blank screen or what?
it looks like machine is booting up GUI but problem is in xorg.conf file.

Execute
Code:
su -
grep -i initdefault | /etc/inittab
lspci | grep -i vga
exit
grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Post output here.

It means problem is with Graphics Card only.

As I suggested earlier, type - ( minus sign ) with su to gain root privileges.
Code:
su -
lspci | grep -i vga

Execute this
Code:
su -
nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
It will open xorg.conf file in nano editor.

Replace Driver "intel" with "vesa" in Video Card section.
Press Ctrl+X, Y and hit Enter key to save file.
Execute this to reboot machine :
Code:
su -
shutdown -r now
