nvidia-xconfig problem

Hello Everybody,

Greetings.

I was trying to install ccsm on my newly installed PCLinuxOS partition and executed nvidia-xconfig. Now I lost my desktop and when I reboot, it only shows the grub menu and then brings me to a non-graphics page. I miss my desktop

May I ask if somebody can please share how I can undo my mistake and restore my desktop please?

As always, I thank you in advance for making time time to share and help.

Cheers!

The nvidia-xconfig tool will make a backup copy of the old xorg.conf file which you can copy back to restore the old settings. In any case, please provide the following information:

nvidia card type you installed
which nvidia driver (version) you installed
how you installed the driver
the version of PCLinuxOS you installed
the kernel you are running
whether you are running 1 monitor or 2
information about the monitor(s) - brand, type (lcd, crt, etc), resolution, scan-rates, refresh rates, whether you are using a vga (analog) or dvi/hdmi (digital) interface.
a copy of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

Hello Rubberman,

Thank you for your reply. Everything is already ok. I brought the laptop to a friend last night. He executed "mc" as root and did something and was able to restore my startx. I was not able to catch up with what he was doing because it was quite fast. Anyway, I am sure the gurus would be in a better position to know what he did.

I would like to express my thanks to all the gurus who have given time to patiently share/teach in this forum. Thank you for giving your time to help all of us, for free.

Cheers!
