GDM Can not find/start X Server

I have installed gdm & X server with all dependencies on my linux kernel.During kernel boot GDM is not able to find the X server.

The error is as follows:
GDM: Xserver not found: /etc/gdm/failsafeXServer :0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7
Error: Command could not be executed!
Please install the X server or correct GDM configuration and restart GDM.gdm[1100]: WARNING: gdm_server_spawn: Xserver not found: /etc/gdm/failsafeXServer :0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7

Please help.

Try typing startx at your console. If you do have a configured X server, it should come up.
