Nvidia driver won't work with GLX in Xorg (Gentoo)

Hullo there. I've been trying to install the nvidia driver for my GeForce 6600gt. I can get it using 'nvidia' rather than 'nv', but for some reason, if I try to enable GLX in /etc/xorg.conf, I get the nvidia logo breifly, but then the X server crashes straight away. I can give you the last part of /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

Code:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1280x1024"
(II) Loading extension NV-GLX
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized
(II) NVIDIA(0): Using the NVIDIA 2D acceleration architecture

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support

Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

I tried to install the nvidia drivers using nvidia's self-extracting installing thingy before I found out how Gentoo recommend you do it, so I may have messed some stuff up there.

But does anybody know what might be wrong, or even better, how to fix it?

At the moment I'm having to comment out the GLX line in my /etc/X11/.xorg.conf file...
