site slow - slashdotted

linuxforums.org may be running a little slower than usual over the next few hours as we have just been slashdotted.

The article that did it was the first article in our editorial section written by qub333. Review of Yoper linux v2.1

I've butchered the page header and removed the page footer as well to reduce the number of HTTP requests the server has to deal with so the site can stay up

In other news, we have loads more reviews on the way

I've just implemented a tweak that eliminates one SQL query per page on phpbb forums, if anyone is interested they can find it here:

Apart from that, there are a number of other tweaks (mostly to my own modded code) i've put in place which should give better performance in the future.

Awesome hack, J. I also like the shameless plug at the end of your post about the cron tutorial.

in reguardes to those hacks they seem to be working, the 2 slashdotted reviews has kept up the massive traffic load, but I haven't noticed a slowdown, cept this morning, but I was on a slower connection in general, so it might have been realated to that
