New Front Page

Just a quick note about the front page... LinuxForums.org is now sporting a funky new front page layout which will allow me to fit a whole lot more important content on the front page. More changes are due over the next 24-48 hours, stay tuned.

Of course, there's going to be one who dissents, and that's me. I'm glad you all like it, but I think It's a bit crowded, and the site news just looks like an afterthought the way it's squeezed in there. But that's just me.

I think it looks good. The only complaint I have is the news section: if it is so prominent on the page there had better be new stuff quite often to keep it from going stale. If the largest part of the front page doesnt change it wont look too good. Also, the 'news' icon itself could change, lets get some variety. Otherwise, thumbs up! It rocks like ninja :P

Have a look now. The site news should now be a bit more promenent, especially as i've increased the length of the text shown.

It still show's up for guests, but not for registered members who are logged in. I figured that after registration the space used by that paragraph would be better used to show something of interest.

I agree. I am hoping to gradually replace the plain site news with a combination of - highlighted/interesting discussions on the forums, site news, new tutorials, as well as the latest stuff from the review team. The aim is to have about 3 or 4 pieces going into the left column of the front page each day.
