Agreed... my thoughts exactly!

A post count is much like keeping score in Freecell. It is just hard enough that you can't reach 100% and keeping the long term scores makes you want to keep playing.

If you guys keep figuring out ways that only the gurus and moderators can have a post count, you might be the only ones left.

Let's keep this a friendly forum.

Jeff

I think we've all tried to make it clear that if you're here just for a post count, you're on the wrong forum.

Who said anything about limiting USERS? If the gurus and moderators are the only ones posting helpful threads, then yes, they will be the only ones with a post count, but not counting frivolous threads doesn't keep regular users from being helpful and posting something useful in the other sections of the forum. We're trying to encourage folks to actually help one another rather than just chew the fat. What's unfriendly about that?

I have said many times that this is a friendly, helpful, forum. I sure hope those of you in the elite corps don't make it too pedantic with your "post count rules".

It wouldn't really bother me if none of the posts counted in any of the following forums:

Code:
Linux Forums Site News
The Coffee Lounge
Comments / Feedback / Suggestions
Classifieds
Threads/posts placed there don't really help anyone solve Linux issues, and it wouldn't hurt many users if they lost all those posts because most users have made very few posts in those forums to begin with. On the other hand, leaving them alone doesn't add all that much to their post count, either. Unless, of course, members start using those forums merely to increase their post count.

The abuse that was occuring in the Coffee Lounge for awhile was becoming down right pathetic. Some of the most useless topics I've ever come across on the internet were being posted there soley to get another of those goofy penguins.

Hopefully, that won't happen in the other forums.
