IRC Guidelines

IRC Guidelines

General Rules:
- Please refrain from using words that might come off as offensive to other channel users.
- Please do not flood the channel with the same sentence or a huge error message. If you have something exceeding four lines to show us, please post it at linuxforums private pastebin.
- If you want to argue with someone concerning a topic that is not related to the channel, please use /msg nick.
- Illegal material is prohibited here. This includes nudity/pornographic images/video (some of our users are under the age of 18), warez, and generally non-acceptable material. Use your common sense.
- If the channel is crowded, please try to address people by their nicks as this might hinder some confusion about who's talking to who.

More technically directed rules:
- If you ask a question, don't expect an answer straight away. People might not be watching or know the answer.
- None of the users in the IRC channel get paid to answer your questions.
- Please use a search engine to find answers before you ask. <Linux> - Google Search is a great start.
- Try searching the forums for resolutions before posting on the IRC channel.
- Try to find answers in the application documentation before asking on IRC.
- Please be as detailed as you can. "My networking card doesn't work" is not good, and you should expect few or no results. "My XXX networking card doesn't work under Redhat 9 kernel 2.6.4, the modprobe command gives me this error: Some error" could get a lot more responses.

About the channel:
- The channel is located on Freenode, a Free/OpenSource Software IRC Network.
- The channel generally has 10+ users on idle, with 3+ normally active at any one point during the day.
- Everyone is friendly on #linuxforums, so do drop by.

If you notice some of the people violating these rules, please contact a moderator/administrator. A complete moderator/administrator list can be found here: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/showgroups.php
