lampamp Just Joined! Join Date: Sep 2009 Posts: 1	How to change the kernel to boot from? my live usb is running fedora on kernel-2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i586 and i want to run it on kernel-2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i586 i have them both installed but my usb fedora is running on kernel-2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i586 so i only want to change the kernel im using how can i select the kernel?

GNU-Fan Linux Enthusiast Join Date: Mar 2008 Posts: 602	You tell your bootloader. I assume you use GNU Grub. Check the manfiles or the homepage of it on how to edit the file menu.lst in /boot/grub __________________ Debian GNU/Linux -- You know you want it.

Rubberman Linux Guru Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away. Posts: 2,662	You can change the default boot kernel by editing the file (as root) /etc/grub/grub.conf. It will list the kernels you can boot from. Just change the "default" entry to the one that you want to boot by default (starts at 0). At least that's what you do for RHEL. For Fedora you might want to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst, though since I don't use FC I cannot say for sure. __________________ Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
